Blended Futures

About This Project

In 2013, the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) hosted their 10th annual Teaching and Learning with Technology conference, Blended Futures. This website was my first solo project for the department that allowed me the opportunity to be creative with the design. Through this website redesign, I was able to introduce a new modern and innovative design for CIT’s conference websites.

In the years prior to Blended Futures, the conference websites were non-responsive and lacked a social platform where conference presenters and attendees could interact. I approached this project with a consultation with my clients and conducted research on best practices for event websites. The redesign included a responsive, one-page WordPress theme that supported parallax scrolling and full-width images. I applied my knowledge of CSS to customize the color scheme of the website to match the conference logo. This customization helped to keep the conference brand consistent across platforms. I was also able to use my HTML and CSS skills for the conference schedule to customize the site architecture for our users. This redesign allowed for me to introduce a new user experience to my clients and our users, which everyone loved.

Soon after the site went live, I was contacted about the visibility of the site on search engines and was asked to help improve its ranking on Google. I specified focus keywords, meta descriptions and SEO titles for the content on our site, which ultimately helped move our site up in the Google search results.
